Getting Warmer

Sometimes I feel a little sorry for Julian when he's playing all by himself in the backyard. I stay inside, watching from the windows since Evie's sleeping in the next room. Every once in awhile, I'll step out to chat or help him, and though he's always happy to see me, I see I'm almost interrupting him.

He has a great time making his own games and playing by himself. I shouldn't feel bad for him at all cause he's busy cracking himself up, having conversations with himself, listening for trucks and planes, talking to the dogs, and discovering everything.
Speaking of discovering...being his curious little self (as Aunt Amanda puts it so nicely!) -- J put yogurt in his Play-doh factory.

I know soon enough he'll have a little shadow toddling around wanting to play with him every second. And I can't wait for my kids to be best friends. I already love the interactions I see between them now -- I can't imagine how sweet it will be when Evie can keep up with big brother.

And in the meantime, I think it's good for him to be able to entertain himself and of course, he's got one great playmate in his cousin Cam too.
Speaking of Camden, I have to add this hilarious interaction between the two of them. Amanda and I have been saying how much we love hearing them talk to each other and have these actual conversations that are so cute. They stopped by to play the other day and after I brought out a little bowl of snacks for the boys to share, this was the dialogue that ensued:

Julian reaches for a pretzel.
Cam (pulls the bowl closer): "No Ju-Ju, get your own bowl."
Julian (gives Cam a dirty look): "Go home Cam."

Ahh, the subtle tact of two-year-olds. :)

I've said it before, but it bears mentioning again: Watching J play outside is one of the cutest things in the world. He does yardwork (drags the rake around), artwork (sidewalk chalk), handyman work (uses "tools" to fix stuff), and is the occasional lumberjack (drags logs from the woodpile and puts them in "better" places). He'll do something and clap for himself when it works out. He rings the doorbell on his own little house and then answers the door for himself, "Hello Junun!"
The other night, we were saying a bedtime prayer and he was saying God bless (fill in the blank) -- he usually lists all our family members in addition to Goose, Indy, Goofy, Buzz, etc. Then at the end he said "help people in Japan"...my Mama heart just about burst with pride. I love my boy.
Not to be outdone, Evelyn Kaye has been particularly heart-melting as well. I've recently discovered that her favorite song is "You Are My Sunshine" and she smiles and laughs through the whole thing, even if I sing it 20 times in a row. (Which consequently, is about the only way to keep her attention long enough to nurse these days. If anyone hears me from the other room, I'm sure I sound more than a little unhinged.)

She's finally gotten to be outside a little since we've had a couple of warm days lately. She grins the whole time, but gasps every time the slightest breeze hits her. Poor girl's had to be a bit of an indoor lady for the last 5 months or so; we'll have to get her used to the great outdoors.
I can't wait for the warm weather to stay...sunshine and being outside have been such a mood-lifter for all of us. We're looking forward to the beach, walks at Kellogg Forest, the park, Grandma and Poppa's pool, sidewalk chalk, popsicles, grilling out, bare baby skin, and best of all, having Daddy home for the summer. Bring it on!

7 Months Old

Our little seven-monther is sweeter than ever. She's rolling and scooting (backwards on her back?), still trying to master that whole "sitting" thing, talking up a storm (which is hilarious because she holds her mouth open all crooked like she's talking out the side of her face), eating everything, sleeping unswaddled finally, and (I think) getting a tooth.

In her new big girl carseat

The girl loves to eat!

And cuddle!

We had a fun Valentine's Day...J liked painting love notes for everyone and decorating some pretty pink cupcakes. He did such a nice job putting all the "sparkles" on (his interpretation of the word "sprinkles"), I had to let him have one.

He wanted to wear a baby too after he saw me with Evie. Actually, he wanted to put Indy in there...I talked him into the doll instead. You're welcome, Indy.

Oh, beautiful girl.
